Fentanyl citrate is an opioid pain medication. Fentanyl citrate treats “breakthrough” cancer pain that is not controlled by other medicines. This medication is not for treating pain that is not cancer-related. You should not use this medication unless you are already being treated with a similar opioid pain medicine. Description

Fentanyl Citrate Injection 3 vials per package. It is a nonpyrogenic, sterile solution of Fentanyl citrate in water for injection. Fentanyl Citrate is a potent narcotic analgesic given only by the intramuscular or intravenous routes of inoculation.

Indications for Fentanyl Citrate Injection 3 vials per package

It is a short-term analgesia used during anesthetic periods, induction, premedication, and maintenance, and during immediate postoperative times as need arises. It is an analgesic supplement in regional or general anesthesia. It is concomitant with neuroleptic-like droperidol as an anesthesia induction and as an adjunct in maintaining local and general anesthesia. Used as an anesthetic together with oxygen in selected high-risk patients like those undergoing open-heart surgery, orthopedic procedures or complicated neurological.

General anesthetic

: 50-100mcg per kg or 1-2ml per kg. The doctor can administer it with oxygen and a muscle relaxant. In cases like complicated neurological, open-heart surgery, or orthopedic procedures, doses of up to 150mcg/kg or 3ml per kg can be required. It is wise to reduce the dose in the cases of debilitated or the elderly.

Note that children below two years should not take this drug. The induction and maintenance dose for those who are 2-12 years is 2-3mcg per kg.

Warnings and precautions

Only people who are skilled explicitly in IV anesthetics and respiratory management in a recognized facility should administer this drug. When giving this medicine, there should be an opioid antagonist, intubation and resuscitate equipment, and oxygen readily available. The doctor should monitor respiratory depression strictly especially after an operation. Patients with a history of head injury or brain tumor, hypertension, increased intracranial pressure, pulmonary disease, drug abuse, cardiac bradyarrhythmias should avoid a drug. Doctors should monitor vital signs routinely. The medication is not recommended for debilitated, elderly pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
